How to Make Sure Your Roof Can Survive A Storm

At Access Maintenance Solutions we have been working as steeplejacks, and high access roofers for over 40 years. In this time we have learned a few tricks and tips about roof maintenance.
The weather at this time of year is always turbulent, and storms Ewan and Doris have proven that even when spring is round the corner a huge amount of damage can still be done.
Storm damage can be a huge inconvenience to some businesses, but to others it may signal the end. Could your business survive the huge amount of repair work needed if a tree collapsed on it?
Thankfully, there are a few things you can do to better protect your roof from such an eventuality.
Falling and flying tiles cause the most damage during a storm. Regular checks of your roof can ensure that there are no loose tiles, and so are less likely to come off in the event of a storm.
Trees and tree branches are the next most damaging things during a storm. If you have a tree on your property ensure that the branches are nowhere near electric wires or windows. It is worth hiring a tree surgeon if need be, they will undoubtedly be cheaper and more convenient than any repair work.
If you have large garage or shutter doors it is worth looking into reinforcing them somehow. These large sheets of metal are extremely susceptible to warping, twisting and bending in high winds, exposing whatever is behind them fully to the elements.
If your roof is old or weaker then adding additional supports may be necessary. To do so may require the use of a professional roofer, but like the tree surgeon above, it will be worth the expense in the long run.
